Replacing brake hose

Warning

When fitting new brake hoses it is very important to ensure that they are fitted in the correct position and can not come into contact with any other part of the car particularly those involved in suspension or steering operations. The hoses can not be turned (twisted). The front brake hoses should be fitted when the wheels are freely suspended and directed straight ahead.

Removal

1. Depress the brake pedal with a brake clamp.

2. Lift the car and remove the wheel on the side where the hose is to be changed.

3. Undo the connection at the brake caliper and the connection between the brake pipe and brake hose. Plug the brake pipe.

4. Remove the clip and take away the hose.

Fitting

1. Fit the new brake hose to the brake pipe and fit the clip.

2. Fit the hose to the brake caliper. Make sure that the hose is turned correctly.

3. Bleed the brake system (A).

4. Fit the wheels and tighten the wheel studs.

Tightening torque

- light alloy wheels 117 Nm (86.6 lbf ft)

- pressed steel wheels 100 Nm (67-78)

5. Check the tightness of the brake hose connections.
