To remove


1. Ignition in OFF position. Remove the negative cable on the battery.

2. Open the glove box. Open the covers to expose the retaining screws and remove same.

3. Remove the other retaining screws, the retaining bolt and the expanding rivet in the front edge and remove the catch from the bulkhead bracket.

4. Pull out the glove box and unplug the connector for the glove-box lighting.

5. Remove the glove box.

6. Disconnect the airbag connector.

7. Remove the bolt that holds the stay to the steering wheel member.

8. Remove the six nuts holding the airbag.

9. Lift out the airbag.


To fit

Warning

Check very carefully that there are definitely no objects between the airbag and the dashboard before fitting the airbag. All loose objects that are in the way of the airbag when it is triggered will be flung violently aside, constituting a direct threat to the lives of the occupants.



1. Fit the airbag. Check that there are no loose objects between the dashboard and the airbag. Tighten the 6 nuts securing the airbag to the dashboard.

Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.6 lbf ft)

2. Seal the front right and the rear left nuts with marking paint. For part number, see Service Information 853-1398.

3. Tighten the bolt that holds the stay to the steering wheel member.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (14.8 lbf ft)

4. Fit the airbag connector to the airbag.

5. Fit the connector to the glove-box lighting and refit the glove-box.

6. Fit the expanding rivet, retaining bolt, retaining screws and cover on the glove-box.

7. Reconnect the negative cable on the battery and turn on the ignition.

8. Connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector under the dashboard and clear any diagnostic trouble codes.

Turn the ignition off and on again. Wait at least 10 seconds with the ignition on.

If a diagnostic trouble code is shown:

Perform the relevant fault diagnosis according to the instructions in the: Fault diagnosis, general .

If the diagnostic trouble code is not shown:

Refit the items you have removed.
