Passenger airbag


In the passenger airbag unit is a gas generator and airbag. The airbag has a volume of approx. 150 litres. The gas generator is bolted to the airbag casing, which is then screwed to the dashboard. The airbag is held in place by a plastic with crack initiators. Corresponding crack initiators are found on the dashboard.

The passenger airbag is connected between pins 13 and 14 on the control module.

Passenger airbag gas generator

The gas generator consists of an aluminium casing divided into an inner chamber, a centre chamber and two annular chambers.

In the inner chamber is an electric detonator and an explosive charge which is connected to the centre chamber.

The centre chamber contains a fuel in tablet form that on combustion develops a gas. The centre chamber is connected to both the outer chambers through passageways fitted with a filter. The filter separates particles from the gas. In the outer chambers, the gas passes through one more filter before it reaches the airbag.
