Outer roof

Outer roof

The outer roof comprises of two layers of cloth with a layer of rubber between them. It is secured with adhesive to the first bow, fifth bow and the rear rail of the soft top mechanism. The roof is secured to the second and third bows with cloth tongues, kept in place by the plastic headlining rails, which snap onto the bows. The roof is fastened to the fourth bow with staples. The outer roof is also screwed to the bottom of the first bow with a metal rail. Along both sides of the outer roof, there is a wire that enables the roof to retain its form even at high speeds.

Up to and including M96, the electrically heated rear window is glued to the roof cloth and is consequently a part of the outer roof.

A larger rear window has been introduced from M97. It is mounted with clips in a frame in the outer roof.
