A DC motor raises and lowers the soft top cover. It is located on the right-hand side of the luggage compartment and is connected to the soft top cover hinge via a linkage system. The motor also opens and closes the latches that lock the front of the soft top cover via wires. It can be run in both directions by reversing the polarity of the motor connections.
It is supplied with 12 V from the control module when the soft top cover is being operated, from pin 16 (K20) for raising and from pin 17 (K20) when lowering. If the motor becomes blocked, there is a current limiter circuit in the control module. A potentiometer by the motor detects the position of the cover. By the soft top cover latches, two microswitches detect whether the cover is locked or not.
