Safety and handling instructions

 General safety rules

 Warning

When working on the SRS, the following points must be observed:

Work in the SRS system must only be carried out by an authorised service workshop.

All work must be carried out with the utmost care and as described in the relevant instructions. There is always a danger of injury if the work is not done in the prescribed manner.

Always make sure that the ignition switch is in the OFF position when changing any components.

The battery's ground cable must be disconnected before the positive cable. Wait at least 1 minute after disconnecting the battery before starting work on the airbag system.

Cables must not be repaired. The entire cable must be replaced. Cable terminals may not be changed.

Components forming part of the system must not be dismantled or repaired. Handle them with care and keep them in a dry place at room temperature.

Airbags must be stored at room temperature. At temperatures above +135°C there is a danger of self-detonation.

Airbags must be stored in a special area, away from storage areas for petroleum products or other inflammable materials.

Airbags must be stored with the metal casing facing downwards to avoid injury in the event of accidental triggering.

Wear goggles and protective gloves when removing an airbag that has been detonated. Put the airbag envelope in a tight-sealing plastic bag. Wash your hands in warm water and a mild soap solution after handling a triggered airbag.

Do not use grease, detergent or the like on the seat-belt tensioner.

The seat-belt tensioner must never be exposed to temperatures above +100°C.

Airbags and seat-belt tensioners are classed as pyrotechnical devices and should be stored and handled in accordance with the current laws and regulations governing these in each individual country.

Airbags and seat-belt tensioners must be fitted immediately after they have been fetched from the stores. If work is interrupted, the airbag or seat-belt tensioner must be returned to the stores and put away safely. Under no circumstances should an airbag or seat-belt tensioner be left unattended.

The seat-belt tensioners and airbags that have fallen on a hard surface must be replaced. Dropped or defective components must not be fitted.
