REMOVAL |
Set the vehicle on a lift.
Open the front hood fully, and then support with the hood stay.
Collect the refrigerant from A/C system.
Release the fuel pressure.
Disconnect the fuel pump relay connector.
After the engine stalls, crank it for 5 seconds more.
Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
Remove the fuel filler cap.
Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
Remove the radiator from vehicle.
Remove the coolant filler tank.
Disconnect the A/C pressure hoses from A/C compressor.
Remove the intercooler.
Disconnect the following connectors and cable.
Engine harness connector
Engine ground terminal
Engine harness connector
Generator connector, terminal and A/C compressor connectors

Clutch release spring (MT model)
Disconnect the following hoses.
Brake booster vacuum hose
Heater inlet and outlet hose
Remove the power steering pump from bracket.
Loosen the lock bolt and slider bolt, and then remove the front side V-belt.
Disconnect the power steering switch connector.
Remove the pipe with bracket from intake manifold.
Remove the power steering pump from engine.
Remove the power steering tank from bracket by pulling it upward.
Place the power steering pump on right side wheel apron.
Lift-up the vehicle.
Remove the ATF cooler pipe from frame. (AT model)
Remove the center exhaust pipe.
Remove the nuts which hold the lower side of transmission to engine.
Remove the nuts which install the front cushion rubber onto front crossmember.
Lower the vehicle.
Separate the clutch release fork from release bearing. (MT model)
Remove the clutch operating cylinder from transmission.
Remove the plug using a 10 mm hexagon wrench.
Screw the 6 mm dia. bolt into release fork shaft, and remove it.

Raise the release fork, and then unfasten the release bearing tabs to free release fork.

Step (4) is required to prevent interference with engine when removing the engine from transmission. |
Separate the torque converter clutch from drive plate. (AT model)
Lower the vehicle.
Remove the service hole plug.
Remove the bolts which hold the torque converter clutch to drive plate.
Remove the other bolts while rotating the engine using socket wrench.
Remove the pitching stopper.
Using ST, disconnect fuel hoses from fuel pipes.

Be careful not to spill fuel.

Catch fuel from hoses using a container or cloth.

Remove the bracket.
Support the engine with a lifting device and wire ropes.
Support the transmission with a garage jack.
Important | ||
Before moving the engine away from transmission, check to be sure no work has been overlooked. Doing this is very important in order to facilitate re-installation and because transmission lowers under its own weight. |

Separation of the engine and transmission.
Remove the starter.
Install the ST to torque converter clutch case. (AT model)
ST 32005099 STOPPER SET
Remove the bolts which hold the right upper side of transmission to engine.
Remove the engine from vehicle.
Slightly raise the engine.
Raise the transmission with garage jack.
Move the engine horizontally until the mainshaft is withdrawn from clutch cover.
Slowly move the engine away from engine compartment.

Be careful not to damage adjacent parts or body panels with crank pulley, oil pressure gauge, etc. |
Remove the front cushion rubbers.
