The kickdown switch located under the accelerator pedal informs the transmission control module, on pin 8, when the accelerator has been fully depressed. The fully-depressed accelerator pedal activates the kickdown switch and puts 0 V (ground) on pin 8.
The control module uses the signal to control the shifting points so that maximum performance is obtained. The kickdown function is available in all shifting programs.
