Checking engine compression


1. Remove the upper engine cover.

2. Disconnect the charge air pipe from the turbocharger and camshaft cover.


3. Disconnect the rear cable mounting from the camshaft cover and unplug the connectors from the glow plugs.


4. Blow clean the area around the glow plugs and remove them.

5. Remove the fuse for the engine control module and fuel distribution pump (no. 2 in the fuse box to the left of the battery box).

6. Connect a compression gauge with a range of 10 to 40 bar to the glow plug hole using 83 95 345 Adapter, compression pressure sensor .

Important

Make sure that no gears are engaged (selector lever in neutral)


7. Run the starter motor at a minimum of 150 rpm until the gauge reading stops rising. The maximum permitted difference between cylinders is 10%. Refer to the control values under Engine block .

8. Disconnect the compression gauge and adapter. Fit the glow plugs.

Tightening torque 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)


9. Connect the glow plugs and fit the wiring mounting to the camshaft cover.

10. Fit the charge air pipe to the turbocharger and camshaft cover.


11. Fit the upper engine cover.

12. Refit the fuse. Check and erase any DTCs.
