Preheated oxygen sensor, front (592) B284

Warning

The exhaust pipe from the turbocharger can be extremely hot. Proceed with caution.


To remove

Important

The oxygen sensor cables must not be twisted. Twisted cables in combination with vibrations can lead to cable breaks.

The oxygen sensor is sensitive to knocks and jolts and must be handled with care.


Important

Always use wing covers when working in the engine bay.



1. Remove the upper engine cover.


2. Remove the battery and Battery cover, bottom, B284 .

3. Remove the heat shield from the turbocharger and catalytic converter.


4. Detach the upper oxygen sensor connector and remove the cable fixings.

Important

Take care when releasing the locking mechanism on the connector so as not to damage the connector. Pull the halves straight apart to avoid bending the pins. For further information regarding connectors, refer to Connectors, handling and inspection .



5. Carefully raise the heat shield slightly. Use 83 96 350 Removal socket, oxygen sensor when the oxygen sensor is removed.


6. Detach the ventilation pipe from the intake manifold and remove the oxygen sensor cable.


To fit


1. Lightly coat the threads with 90 513 210 Universal paste and fit the oxygen sensor using 83 96 350 Removal socket, oxygen sensor .

Tightening torque 45 Nm (33 lbf ft).


2. Carefully press down the heat shield.

Important

Take care when plugging in the connector so as not to damage or press out the pins/sleeves in the connector. For further information regarding connectors, refer to Connectors, handling and inspection .


3. Position the cable and attach the ventilation pipe to the intake manifold.

4. Secure the cable and plug in the connector.


5. Fit the heat shield to the turbocharger and catalytic converter.


6. Fit the battery and Battery cover, bottom, B284 .


7. Replace the upper engine cover.

8. Remove the wing cover.
