Propeller shaft

Important

When removing/fitting the propeller shaft, special tool DT-49035 Holder, Propeller Shaft must be used to prevent the shaft from being bent or the ties from being damaged due to being bent too forcefully.

During manual handling, the propeller shaft must be lifted at the front and rear sections in order to prevent the ties from being damaged due to being bent too forcefully.



To remove


1. Remove Rear catalytic converter, B284, 4WD .

2. Mark out the position of the mountings (A), use spray paint.


3. Undo the propeller shaft (A) from the differential clutch. Hold with DT-49147 Support .


4. Remove the shaft from the differential clutch. Connect DT-49064 Puller to the unthreaded hole of the driver. Start by fitting a bolt (A) and using it to press out the shaft. If the shaft does not detach, turn the driver half a turn, fit the next bolt and continue pressing.


5. Remove the tool.

6. Remove the mountings (A) and allow the propeller shaft to rest against the column jack and DT-49035 Holder, propeller shaft .


7. Remove the front joint (A) with DT-49030 Removal tool , removing in two steps. A wooden block may be required between the tool and the flange to extract the joint completely.


8. Lower and pull the propeller shaft away.


To fit


1. Raise the propeller shaft with the column jack and DT-49035 Holder, propeller shaft .

2. Check the circlip and O-ring on the front joint.

3. Lubricate the splines with 90 513 210 Universal paste and fit the front joint. Press it in by hand until the circlip engages.

4. Fit the mountings, in accordance with the earlier markings (A).

Tightening torque 20 Nm (14.7 lbf ft).


5. Fit the propeller shaft's bolts (A) to the differential clutch, use DT-49147 Support to hold the joint. Use new bolts and Thread locking adhesive, Loctite 242 .

Tightening torque 30 Nm (22.1 lbf ft).


6. Fit Rear catalytic converter, B284, 4WD .

7. Lower and pull the lift away.

8. Lower the car.
