Subframe, 4WD

To remove


1. Raise the car. use the rear jacking points C and the front jacking points B, see Jacking and attaching points .


2. Remove Exhaust system assembly, 4WD .

3. Remove propeller shaft .

4. Remove the rear Spring, 4WD .

5. Remove the right Lower suspension arm, 4WD .

6. Cut the strap (A) and open the protective case. Detach and unplug the connector housings (B). Remove the wiring harness from the clip (C) and hang it to the side.


7. Remove the bolt (A) securing the shock absorber to the steering swivel member on both sides.


8. Remove the parking brake cables from their mountings (B) in the body on both sides.

9. Remove the parking brake cables from the clamps (C) on the longitudinal links on both sides.

10. Remove the front mountings (D) of the longitudinal links on both sides.

11. Detach the parking brake cable holder (E) from the mounting.

12. Position 83 95 311 Trolley lift with 89 96 944 Centring fixture, fit/remove rear axle with KM-6314-100 Support (A) and plastic guides KM-6314-200 Spacer (B).


13. Remove the bolts (A) securing the subframe to the body on both sides.


14. Make sure that the parking brake cables and wiring harness are clear of the longitudinal link and lower the trolley lift with the subframe. Retain the washers between the subframe bushes and the body.


To fit


1. Place washers (A) on the subframe bushes. Lift the subframe with 83 95 311 Trolley lift and 89 96 944 Centring fixture, fit/remove rear axle with KM-6314-100 Support and KM-6314-200 Spacer . The jig's locating pins (B) must fit in the holes in the body.


2. Lift the subframe so that the inner sections of the bushes are pressing against the body. Fit the subframe bolts (A) on both sides.

Tightening torque 75 Nm +135° (55 lbf ft +135°)


3. Lower and pull away the trolley lift.

4. Fit the longitudinal links (D) and mountings (E) for the parking brake cables to the body.

5. Fit the parking brake cables to the clamps (C) on the longitudinal links on both sides.

6. Fit the parking brake cables to their mountings (B) in the body.

7. Fit the shock absorbers (A) to the steering swivel members.

Tightening torque 150 Nm (110 lbf ft)

8. Plug in and fit the wiring harness (B) in the protective case. Close the cover and fit straps (A) around the case. Fit the wiring harness clips (C).


9. Fit the right Lower suspension arm, 4WD .

10. Fit Spring, 4WD .

11. Fit the propeller shaft .

12. Fit Exhaust system assembly, 4WD .

13. Carry out four wheel alignment .
