Outer drive-shaft universal joint

To remove

Important

The drive assembly is very susceptible to dirt.



1. Clean the drive shaft thoroughly.

2. Set up the drive shaft in a vice with soft jaws.

3. Remove the clamps on the outboard drive shaft universal joint.


4. Press in the boot on the shaft as far as possible.

5. Tap away the outboard drive shaft universal joint with a splinterproof plastic mallet.

6. Remove the boot.


To fit


1. Fill 185 g 87 92 798 Drive shaft grease, man in the universal joint. Whatever does not fit is added to the gaiter.


2. Fit the boot onto the drive shaft. Push it in to the inner groove on the shaft. Secure it with the small clamp ring with 30 16 235 Piers .

3. Fill the remaining grease into the boot.

4. Fit the drive shaft into the outboard drive shaft universal joint. Check first that the circlip is in place in the groove.

5. Press on the shaft until the circlip snaps in place.

6. Attach the boot and fit the large clamping ring.


Cleaning


1. Turn the ball cage so that one ball can be removed and turn again so that the next ball can be removed. Continue until all the balls have been removed. Note how the ball cage ring is fitted so that it can be refitted in the same way.


2. Clean the parts thoroughly.

3. Fit the ball cage with the internal groove upwards.

4. Fit the ball cage hub inside the ring with the circlip groove inward in the drive shaft universal joint.


5. Turn the ball cage and insert the balls in place one after the other.

6. Fit the universal joint as described in "To fit outer drive shaft universal joint"
