Coolant in engine oil (A20NFT/LHU)
Cause
Procedure
DEFINITION: Foam formation in engine oil or discoloured oil or "oil level too high" may indicate that coolant has entered the crankcase. Low coolant level, faulty cooling fan or a defective thermostat may lead to a condition with high temperature which could cause damage to engine components. Contaminated engine oil and the oil filter must be changed.
2.
Check using a cylinder leakage test. During this test, a heavy formation of air bubbles in the coolant system indicates a defective gasket or a damaged component.
3.
Check using a cylinder compression test. Two cylinders "side by side" on the engine block with low compression may indicate a faulty cylinder gasket. See
Compression test engine
