Replacing the audio system

Replacing the audio system

General

The main unit and CD changer (CDC) in the Saab 9-5 are equipped with a new type of theft protection system. The main unit and CD changer are both connected to the I-bus. When the main unit and CD changer are installed for the first time, they are married with the vehicle. This is performed with Tech 2. During the marriage, the main unit and CD changer recognize theft protection information from the vehicle. From this point on, the main unit and CD changer will only work in this vehicle. Therefore, no radio code is required in the Saab 9-5.

This also means that a main unit and CD changer that are being removed from a Saab 9-5 must first be divorced from the vehicle unless they are to be refitted in the same vehicle.

Note

If the main unit or CD changer are DIVORCED, the SID displays “RADIO CODE” and “CDC CODE” respectively when activated.

- Main unit

- CD changer

•If the main unit or CD changer is still married to another Saab 9-5, SID will display “RADIO LOCKED” or “CDC LOCKED” on activation. To be able to divorce any of the units with Tech 2, the procedure must be performed in the vehicle to which the unit is married.

- Main unit

- CD changer

Important

The main unit and CD changer must be divorced before being returned for repairs under warranty. The supplier cannot divorce them and will charge a fee for all linked units sent to them.
