Fixed brake caliper, rear wheel, renovation

To dismantle



1. Remove the brake caliper.

2. Clean the hydraulic body.

3. Remove the two dust caps.

4. Press out the brake piston by blowing compressed air through the hose connection. Use Rear brake piston removal tool, 89 96 712 as a support.


Warning

Mind your fingers as the brake piston flies out.


5. Remove the sealing rings from the cylinder.

6. Check for damage due to wear.


To assemble



1. Lubricate the piston sealing ring with the grease supplied in the kit. Also pack the dust cap with grease.

2. Fit the piston seals in the cylinder.

3. Fit the pistons in the cylinders and press the dust caps into place.


Important

It is essential that the recess on the piston is facing down and at the correct angle.

A measurement can be taken to ensure that they are in the right position. The distance between the lower inner edge and the gap should be 29 mm (see illustration).

Alternatively, check with a brake piston template (part No. 89 95 342).


4. Fit the brake caliper.
