Adaptive shifting programs
Adaptive shifting programs |
Adaptive shifting programs are selected automatically depending on the engine load. The function is available in the normal and sport programs.
The shifts occur at higher engine rpm and the gear is engaged for longer if the control module senses that the load does not decrease. These shifting programs are in place to avoid unnecessary up and downshifting, for example, when driving on long uphill stretches with a trailer as well as to prevent overheating of the transmission fluid.
Adaptive shifting programs are selected automatically if the transmission fluid becomes overheated, in order to prevent serious transmission damage as well as to decrease the transmission fluid temperature. Activation occurs when the temperature exceeds 150 °C.
The adaptive shifting programs are not activated at speeds above 150 km/h. If an adaptive shifting program is activated when the speed increases to above 150 km/h, the program is maintained until the control module senses that a more suitable shifting pattern can be activated.

The ignition key is turned to the ON or OFF positions.

Temperature program 1
If the oil temperature rises to 125° C, Lock-up will be activated in the 3rd and 4th gear. When lock up is activated no slipping will occur in the torque converter, which results in a lower temperature. The shifting points are altered as well which means upshifts occur at higher rpm and downshifts at lower rpm. Temperature program 1 does not work when: -Winter program is selected -Limp home has been activated Is disconnected when: -The temperature drops to 110°C |

Temperature program 2
If the oil temperature rises to 140° C, Lock-up will be activated in 2nd gear. This can occur, for example, when driving on uphill stretches with a caravan attached. When lock up is activated no slipping occurs in the torque converter, which results in a lower temperature. Temperature program 2 does not work when: -Winter program is selected -Limp home has been activated Is disconnected when: -The temperature drops to 125°C |

Temperature program 3
If the temperature rises to 150°C, a reduction of the engine torque to 200Nm will take place. Temperature program 3 is disconnected when: -The temperature drops to 140°C If these programs do not alleviate the problem and the temperature rises to 170°C, the "Info display" lamp lights up and the message TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING is displayed on the SID. Diagnostic trouble code P0218 can be read with Tech 2. If this trouble code is displayed, the transmission fluid must be changed. |
