Solenoid valve SL, for Lock-up

Solenoid valve SL, for Lock-up

Solenoid valve SL is located in the valve housing which is mounted on the gearcase. This solenoid controls the torque converter's Lock-up clutch. When it is activated, power is transmitted mechanically through the torque converter.

The solenoid is grounded via its casing directly to the gearcase and is connected to control module pin 2, which activates it by supplying it with B+. A valve not supplied with current is open.

Whether the control module activates the Lock-Up function on 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear depends on the throttle position and the vehicle speed. 2nd gear is special in so much as lock-up is activated for fluid temperatures in excess of 150°C.

The Lock-up function is disengaged if:

The transmission fluid temperature is below 0°C.

The transmission fluid temperature is above 150°C. (Not applicable to 2nd gear)

The resistance of the winding in the solenoid is nominally 13 ohms.

Diagnostics

Diagnostic trouble code P0743 will be generated in the event of a fault in solenoid SL.
