Checking engine compression

Checking engine compression

1. Remove the upper engine cover.

2. Undo the charge air pipe from the turbocharger and camshaft cover.

3. Undo the rear cable mounting from the camshaft cover and disconnect the glow plugs.

4. Blow clean around the glow plugs and remove them.

5. Take out the fuse for the engine control module and fuel distribution pump (no. 27 in the dashboard fuse board).

6. Connect a compression gauge with a range between 10 to 40 bar to the glow plug hole using 83 95 345 Adapter, compression pressure sensor .

7. Run the starter motor until the gauge stops and engine speed is at least 150 rpm. The maximum permitted pressure differential between cylinders is 10%, see test values in Engine block .

8. Disconnect the compression gauge and adapter. Fit the glow plugs.

Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7 lbf ft)

9. Connect the glow plugs and fit the cable mountings to the camshaft cover.

10. Fit the charge air pipe to the turbocharger and the camshaft cover.

11. Fit the upper engine cover.
