To remove

1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Drain the refrigerant from the A/C system. See Draining and filling of refrigerant .

3. Disconnect the inlet hose with mass air flow sensor without unplugging the connector and move it to one side.

4. Remove the RH headlamp and RH direction indicator. See Headlamps .

5. Unload the Poly-V-belt and lift it off. Mark the direction of rotation.

6. Fit hose clamp pliers, 30 07 739 Hose clamp pliers , on both hoses to the power steering fluid reservoir.

7. Unplug the connector for the compressor located on the structure/console behind the right headlamp. Remove the connector from the holder.

8. Remove the screws to the A/C compressor's low and high pressure pipes.

9. Raise the car.

10. Remove the cover under the radiator core.

11. Remove the engine's side cover.

12. Remove the low and high pressure pipes from the A/C compressor. Plug the pipes and compressor.

13. Remove the power steering pipes from the clips on the subframe (2).

14. Remove the connections to the power steering cooling coil (2 joints). Plug the pipes.

15. Remove the power steering cooling coil.

16. Remove the three compressor retaining screws.

17. Lift out the compressor through the hole in the subframe.

To fit

1. Adjust the oil level in the compressor. See Filling and adjustment of compressor oil .

2. Insert the lower retaining screw in the A/C compressor.

3. Fit the A/C compressor in place and tighten two of the retaining screws.

4. Fit the third retaining screw on the A/C compressor.

Tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 lbf ft)

5. Fit the low and high pressure pipes in the A/C compressor.

6. Screw the power steering pump cooling coil into the holders. Two in the subframe and two in the radiator bracket.

Tightening torque: 6 Nm (4 lbf ft)

7. Make the connections to the power-steering cooler loop (two joints).

8. Lower the car.

9. Tighten the A/C compressor low and high-pressure pipes.

Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 lbf ft)

10. Raise the car.

11. Tighten the two joints.

Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 lbf ft)

12. Fit the cover under the radiator core.

13. Fit the engine's side cover.

14. Lower the car.

15. Remove the hose clamp pliers from the return hoses of the power steering fluid reservoir.

16. Fit the multigroove V-belt on the pulley. Check that the position is correct.

17. Plug in the connector for the compressor and press it into the holder on the structure/console behind the RH headlamp.

18. Fit the RH headlamp and RH direction indicator. See Headlamps .

19. Fit the inlet hose to the mass air flow sensor and turbo.

20. Fill oil in the power steering fluid reservoir.

21. Start the engine, turn the steering wheel back and forth a few times and check for leaks.

22. Turn off the engine. Adjust the power steering fluid level.

23. Evacuate the A/C system and refill with refrigerant. See Draining and filling of refrigerant .
