P0116, P0196

Read the instructions below then start the fault diagnostic procedure.

Symptom: CHECK ENGINE lamp on. The radiator fan runs continually. Prolonged preheating time.

P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Malfunction.

P0196 Oil Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction.


Fault symptoms


• CHECK ENGINE lamp on.

• The radiator fan runs continually.

• Prolonged preheating time.


Conditions

The following conditions apply for this DTC:


• P0116: When coolant temperature has not exceeded 70°C 5 minutes after the oil temperature has exceeded 80°C for 2.5 seconds.

Fault criteria not fulfilled for P0117, P0118, P0197 or P0198.

• P0196: If the oil temperature has not exceeded 50°C 5 minutes after the coolant temperature has exceeded 85°C for 2.5 seconds.

Fault criteria not fulfilled for P0117, P0118, P0197 or P0198.


Diagnostic help

P0116: The control module uses 0°C as a substitute value. Diagnosis for P0196 is disengaged.

P0196: The control module uses 100°C as a substitute value. Diagnosis for P0116 is disengaged.

Note

A fault in the control module female connector can cause a trouble code. Check the contact for a bent pin, oxidation and tightness of pins. See Difficult faults in PSG16 despite trouble code
