Rocker Panel Replacement (Center)

Removal Procedure

Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Warning .

Note

Section in specified areas only. Sectioning outside of these areas may compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. The sectioning procedures have been developed as a more cost-effective alternative to complete replacement.



1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

3. Repair as much of the damaged area as possible. Refer to Dimensions - Body .

4. Remove all related panels and components.

5. Remove the rear side door. Refer to Rear Side Door Replacement .

6. Remove the rear side door weatherstrip - body side. Refer to Rear Side Door Weatherstrip Replacement .

7. Remove the rear compartment floor panel carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .

8. Remove the front side door weatherstrip - body side. Refer to Front Side Door Weatherstrip Replacement (Body Side) .

9. Remove the front floor panel carpet. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .

10. Remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Base) Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Corrosion Protection) .

Note

Do not damage any inner panels or reinforcements.

Note the number and location of the welds for installations of the service part.


Create cut line (1) 50 mm (1.9 in) on the rocker panel.


12. Cut out the rocker panel (1).

13. Locate and drill out all of the necessary factory welds.

14. Remove the damaged rocker panel.



Installation Procedure


1. Apply bodywork repair through structural adhesive to body (2). Refer to Structural Adhesive Body Repairs .


2. Apply 1K-Adhesive on the sound deadener (1). Refer to Chemical Products .

3. Position the rocker panel.


4. Verify the fit of the rocker panel.

5. Clamp the rocker panel into position.

Refer to Welded, Brazed, and Riveted Joint Specifications .


Spot weld (1) the rocker panel accordingly.


7. MIG-braze (2) the rocker panel.

8. Grind MIG brazed seams.

9. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Base) Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair (Corrosion Protection) .

10. Install all related panels and components.

11. Install the front floor panel carpet. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .

12. Install the front side door weatherstrip - body side. Refer to Front Side Door Weatherstrip Replacement (Body Side) .

13. Install the rear compartment floor panel carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement .

14. Install the rear side door weatherstrip - body side. Refer to Rear Side Door Weatherstrip Replacement .

15. Install the rear side door. Refer to Rear Side Door Replacement .

16. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

17. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
