Electric detonator 2, short circuit

Cars with passenger airbag

1. Make a note of the diagnostic trouble code and then clear it. Switch the ignition off and on again, wait for at least 40 seconds with the ignition switched on.

Check to see if the diagnostic trouble code returns.

If it does, it is a permanent fault. Proceed to point 2.

If it does not, the fault is intermittent.

Leave the ignition switched on and jiggle the connectors and wiring to check for an open circuit/loose connections. Note whether the SRS lamp starts to flash again. If it does, check whether the diagnostic trouble code recurs.

2. Remove the glove box and unplug the connector on the underside of the passenger airbag. Unscrew the steering wheel airbag, connect reference resistor 84 71 153 to both airbag connectors.

Switch on the ignition and clear the diagnostic trouble code. Switch the ignition off and on again, wait for at least 40 seconds and then check to see whether the diagnostic trouble code recurs.

If the diagnositc trouble code recurs, proceed to point 3.

If the diagnostic trouble code has gone, the fault is in the passenger airbag. Switch off the ignition and carry out a double check by connecting the airbag, switch on the ignition and wait for at least 40 seconds.

Check to see if the diagnostic trouble code returns.

If it does, switch off the ignition and change the passenger airbag. Switch on the ignition and clear the diagnostic trouble code. Switch the ignition off and then on again. Wait for at least 40 seconds and then check to see whether the diagnostic trouble code recurs.

3. Switch off the ignition, remove the reference resistor and check the function of the short circuit contact between pins 6 and 8.

Check the wiring by connecting a BOB to the control module's connector and taking a resistance reading across pins 6 and 8.

If the reading obtained shows low resistance, investigate the cause and change the wiring.

If the reading obtained shows high resistance, connect the reference resistor and plug in the connector, switch on the ignition and clear the diagnostic trouble code. Switch the ignition off and then on again. Wait for at least 40 seconds before checking to see whether the diagnostic trouble code recurs.

If the diagnositc trouble code recurs, proceed to .
