Backrest reclining cable, passenger seat

To remove


1. Position the backrest in the upright position.

2. Remove the seat, see .

3. Manual seat: Remove the backrest rake adjusting knob and rear side cover.

4. Electrically adjustable seat: Remove the side cover and switches, see .

5. Remove the knobs on the release handles.

Important

Be careful that the upholstery is not damaged.



6. Put a thick cloth against the backrest behind the release handle. Lever out the grommet with a large screwdriver (destructive removal).

7. Put the seat-belt buckle to one side. Remove the cover over the lower cable attachment by pressing in the expanding rivet and lifting it off.


8. Cut off the five clamping rings securing the lower edge of the upholstery.

Note

Make sure the clamping rings do not fall into the seat when they are cut off or they may cause rattling.



9. Carefully lever to one side the metal tabs and release the hooks securing the front of the upholstery to the backrest frame.

10. Pull up the upholstery and cut off the clamping rings securing the upholstery to the front of the foam cushion.


11. Cut off the clamping rings securing the tension sheets to the lumbar support.

12. Note the positions of the cable and cable ties and then cut off the cable ties.


13. Unhook the six long springs on both sides of the spring net.

Allow the spring net to remain suspended by its upper attachment hooks and fold it up.

14. Cut off the cable tie securing the cable to one side of the backrest frame.


15. Remove the lock washer and undo the lower cable link.

16. Unhook the lower backing clip.

17. Repeat points 14-16 on the other side of the seat.

18. Unhook the upper backing clips.

19. Unhook the z-links from the backrest reclining mechanisms and remove the cables.


To fit



1. Fit the backrest reclining cables to the backrest frame and attachment points.

2. Guide the lower ends of the cable through the holes in the sides of the backrest frame.

3. Hook on the z-links to the backrest reclining mechanisms.

4. Press on the backing clips.

5. Press on the lower backing clips on both sides.

6. Fit the lower ends of the cable in place and press on the lock washers.

7. Attach the cables to the backrest frame with new cable ties.

8. Fold back the spring net and hook on the springs.


9. Fit the backrest reclining cables to the lumbar support net and attach them with new cable ties.

Check the function.

10. Stretch and attach the foam cushion tension sheets with three clamping rings in each of the sheets for the lumbar support net. Use the pliers that are included in fitting kit 84 71 062.


11. Pull down the upholstery and attach it to the front of the foam cushion using two clamping rings. Use the pliers that are included in fitting kit 84 71 062.

12. Pull the upholstery all the way down and put the front part between the seat cushion and backrest cushion. Make sure the upholstery hooks come backwards.


13. Fold forward the backrest and attach the upholstery hooks to the backrest frame. Secure them with the metal tabs.

14. Fit new grommets and push on the knobs for the backrest release handles.


15. Fit the cover over the lower cable attachment and reposition the seat-belt buckle.


16. Fasten together the lower edge of the upholstery using five clamping rings. Use the pliers that are included in fitting kit 84 71 062.


17. Manual seat: Fit the rear side cover and backrest rake adjusting knob.

18. Electrically adjustable seat: Fit the side cover and switches, see .

19. Fit the seat, see .
