Gear lever knob
Gear lever knob |
To remove |
1. |
Remove the gear rod as described in Section "Gear Lever".
|
2. |
Place the gear lever in a screw vice.
|
3. |
Place tape around the actuator, directly below the knob, so that the actuator is not damaged or scratched while it is being removed.
|
4. |
Place a 32 mm open-ended spanner below the edge of the knob. Using a plastic hammer, tap the spanner carefully from below. Lift off the knob and its actuator.
|
5. |
Remove the tape. Disconnect the knob from the actuator by pressing in the three plastic hooks on to the actuator with a small screwdriver. (The hooks can be reached below figures 1, 5 and 4 on the knob.) Note the steel spring under the knob.
|
Fitting |
1. |
Check that the spherical socket ring has been threaded on the gear lever.
|
2. |
Fit the spring in the actuator.
|
3. |
Check that the figure 4 on the knob is in line with the R on the actuator and push the knob on to the actuator.
|
4. |
Check that the gaiter is placed on the actuator.
|
5. |
Ensure that the gear marking on the knob and the actuator's stop heel are in the correct position in relation to the bearing hole at the bottom of the gear lever (so that the gear marking will be in the correct position in the car). Loosely fit the knob on the lever so that it hooks into its splines.
|
6. |
Place the gear lever in a screw vice. Tap the knob with your hand or with a light rubber mallet until the stop heel of the actuator is max. 0-0.5 mm above the stop of the reverse gear catch.
|
7. |
Fit the gear lever in the gear lever housing as described in Section "Gear Lever".
