Selector lever housing

Removal



1. Disconnect the battery's negative terminal.

2. Remove the floor and centre consoles, see Service Manual 8:2 Fixtures and Fittings.

3. Remove the air duct to the rear air distributors and the two channels to the facia's middle section.

4. Place the selector lever in position N.

5. Release the indicator plate plus its rubber seal from the selector lever housing and turn it to one side, so that the securing point for the selector lever wire becomes accessible.

6. Release the locking screw for the selector lever wire's securing point in the selector lever with special tool , 87 92 269. The tool is inserted into the housing under the indicator plate.

7. Release the front wire securing point.

8. Release the wiring on the right-hand side of the selector lever housing by cutting the two securing straps and the cable holder which holds the wiring to the housing by the ignition lock.


9. Unscrew the four securing screws which hold the selector lever housing to the car body.

10. Disconnect the three connectors on the right-hand side of the housing.

11. Turn the housing with its bottom side to the left and release the locking ring which locks the selector lever wire.

12. Release the rear contact and the bushing which holds the cable contact to the housing.

13. Lift out the selector lever housing from the car.

Important

The locking screw for the selector lever wire is loose and can fall out when the housing is lifted out of the car.



Fitting



1. Place the selector lever housing in position on its side with the bottom side to the left.

2. Reconnect the rear contact and refit the bushing which holds the contact cable to the housing.

3. Insert the selector lever wire into its securing point and secure with the locking ring.

4. Straighten up the housing and fit it properly in its place.

5. Screw in the selector lever housing.

6. Reconnect the three contacts on the right-hand side of the housing.

7. Fit the wiring with 2 new clips and refit the cable holder to the housing next to the ignition lock.

8. Screw in the selector lever wire's front securing point.

9. Place the selector lever and the gear shifter on the transmission in position N.

10. Adjust the selector lever wire with the locking screw under the indicator plate, .

11. Refit the indicator plate with its rubber seal in position. Make sure that the WINTER lamp's cable is carefully tucked down into the selector lever housing.

12. Refit the air ducts.


13. Refit the floor and centre consoles, see Service Manual 8:2.

14. Reconnect the battery's negative terminal.
