Rear outer wheel housing, three-door body

The rear outer wheel housing is an integrated part of the inner side panel. On replacement, cut the wheel housing away from the inner side panel. Then cut the new wheel housing away from the spare part and spot-weld it to the inner side panel.


1. Mount the car on an aligning bench and realign to the correct measurements if necessary.

2. Remove the side panel, see Part of side panel, three-door body.

3. Cut away the damaged wheel housing. Cut as close to the inner wheel housing as possible.

4. Drill out the spot welds in the edge of the reinforcement nearest the wheel housing. Bend out the reinforcement component slightly.

5. Cut the spare part as shown.

6. Use a grinder to clean the areas on the spare part and body that are to be welded.

7. Drill holes for plug welding in the front edge of the spare part so that it can be plug welded to the reinforcement in front of the wheel housing and inner side panel.

8. Apply welding primer to the surfaces which are to be spot welded or plug welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.

9. Position the spare part inside the reinforcement in front of the wheel housing.

10. Spot weld the wheel housing in place.

11. Plug weld the reinforcement and wheel housing in place.

12. Wash off surplus welding primer. Welding primer makes for poorer adhesion of paint, filler and sealant.

13. Apply primer to all surfaces that have been ground clean. Use a high-quality primer such as Standox 1K Füllprimer.

14. Seal joints and metal folds with putty. Use Terostat 1K-PUR.

15. Apply underseal to the inside of the wheel housing. Use Terostat 9320.

16. Apply anti-corrosion agent to the wheel housing after it has been painted. Use Terotex HV 400 or Mercasol 1.
