Checking boot lid

Symptom: The soft top can be operated even though the boot lid is open.The soft top cannot be operated, SID displays “CLOSE TRUNK” even though the boot lid is closed.The boot lid cannot be opened from the switch in the driver's door.

Fault symptoms

The soft top can be operated even though the boot lid is open.

The soft top cannot be operated, SID displays “CLOSE TRUNK” even though the boot lid is closed.

The boot lid cannot be opened from the switch in the driver's door.

Diagnostic help

If it is possible to operated the soft top even though the boot lid is open or if SID displays “CLOSE TRUNK”, the reading “TRUNK LID must be checked to see if it corresponds to the position of the lid.

Whether or not the boot lid can be opened with the switch in the driver's door depends on the position of the fifth bow when the soft top is raised (closed) or on the position of the soft top cover when it is lowered (open). Check that the programmed values are correct.

“#5 BOW MOTOR LOW LIMIT” and

“TONNEAU MOTOR LOW LIMIT”.

Diagnostic procedure

1 Check control module input


- Connect the diagnostic tool.

- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

- Read value “TRUNK LID”

- Open and close the boot lid. Make sure the reading “TRUNK LID” corresponds to the position of the lid.


Are the reading correct in both cases?

yes

Continue with step 2.


no

Check and rectify the wiring harness and the switches for the boot lid. Continue with step 6.


2 Read diagnostic trouble codes


- Connect the diagnostic tool.

- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

- Read DTCs from TSAS.


Are there any DTCs stores in TSAS?

yes

Rectify the trouble codes.


no

Continue with step 3.


3. Check control module input


- Unplug the TSAS K20 connector.

- Connect test lamp 86 11 857 between pin 19 in K20 and ground.

- Press the button in the driver's door to open the boot lid.


Does the test lamp light up?

yes

Continue with step 4.


no

Check and rectify fuse 25 and the wiring harness between the fuse and the TSAS control module pin 19 (K20). Continue with step 6.


4 Check the boot lid lock motor.


- Connect a jumper cable between pins 18 and 19 (K20).

- Press the button in the driver's door to open the boot lid.


Is the function correct?

yes

Continue with step 5.


no

Check and rectify the wiring harness from the TSAS control module pin 18 (K20) and the boot lid lock motor with its ground connection. Continue with step 6.


5 Program TSAS potentiometer values.


- Program all the potentiometer values.

- The boot lid should be able to be opened when the soft top is up (closed) or down (open).


Is the function correct in both cases?

yes

Continue with step 6.


no

Change the control module as described in


6. Final check


- Activate the soft top with the ROOF button and operate it for a few cycles

- Make sure the soft top is functioning correctly and that no diagnostic trouble codes are generated.


Is the function correct?

yes

The fault has been rectified.
