Section of front wheel housing

Section of front wheel housing

Joint in front of MacPherson strut

Replacing front frame member, see Section of front frame member (joint) and Front wheel housing and front frame member (complete replacement).

The radiator member must be removed.

1. Position the car in an aligning bench.

2. Cross-measure the car.

3. Left wheel housing:

Drill out the spot welds in the battery tray. Knock away the tray and remove it. Grind away the seam weld.

4. Cut the damaged part from the wheel housing.

5. Drill out the welds that hold the damaged section of the wheel housing.

6. Tap loose the damaged section of the wheel housing. Align any deformed sheet metal or panel.

7. Cut the new wheel housing so that it overlaps the intended joint line by approximately three centimetres.

8. Fit the spare part. Fit it according to the existing holes in the wheel housing and fixate with a few clamps. Align the spare part exactly using the aligning bench measuring system.

9. Cut through the spare part and the existing wheel housing at the same time so that the sections can be welded edge-to-edge.

10. Remove the spare part.

11. Grind clean the surfaces to be welded on the body and on the new spare part.

12. Apply welding primer on the surfaces to be spot-welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.

13. Fit the new wheel housing section. Fit it according to hole in the existing housing and fasten it with a few welding clamps.

14. Fasten the new wheel housing with a couple of welds.

15. Fit wing, radiator member and bonnet. Check position of the wheel housing. Adjust if necessary.

16. All-weld the joint on the wheel housing. Upper part of the joint must be welded from the inside and the lower part from the outside.

17. Grind the welds.

18. Spot-weld the wheel housing and frame member.

19. Left wheel housing: grind clean the surfaces to be welded on the battery shelf and wheel housing.

20. Left wheel housing: Apply welding primer on the surfaces to be welded. Use Teroson Zinkspray.

21. Left wheel housing: Weld the battery shelf to the wheel housing.

22. Weld the end plate in the wheel housing after the frame member and the front cross-member have been welded together.

23. Remove any remaining welding primer. Welding primer reduces adhesion of paint, filler and sealant.

24. Apply primer to all ground surfaces. Use Standox 1K Primer.

25. Apply anti-corrosion agent inside the wheel housing after painting. Use Terotex HV 400 or Mercasol 1.
