Changing the oil pump sealing ring

To remove

Changing the crankshaft front sealing ring


1. Remove the top of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover top part, removing and fitting .

2. Remove the multi-belt - see Multi-belt, removing and fitting .

3. Remove the multi-belt tensioning pulley - see Tensioning device for multi-belt, removing and fitting .

4. Remove the bottom of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover bottom part, removing and fitting .

5. Caution

Before removing the tooth belt: turn the crankshaft to 60° (dim I) before the TDC mark.


6. Screw in the drive belt pulley bolt into the crankshaft.

7. Remove the camshaft sensor (1) from the cylinder head and put it to one side.


8. Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation to "ignition TDC for cylinder 1" (III). The marks on the camshaft sprockets must agree.


9. Fix the camshaft sprocket with KM-852 83 96 319 Holder tool, fixing of camshaft sprocket Z18XE (II).

10. Undo the bolt on the drive belt tensioning pulley (IV) and turn the eccenter adjuster in the direction of the arrow (clockwise) until the pointer (1) is close to the left-hand stop.

11. Remove the tooth belt and put it to one side.

12. Pull off the tooth belt sprocket from the crankshaft and wiggle out the sealing ring (1) with a suitable tool - do not damage the sealing surfaces.

Note

Use KM-6010 ( 83 96 343 Fitting tool front crankshaft seal, Z18XE )



Change


1. Slide on the protective collar from 83 96 343 Fitting tool front crankshaft seal, Z18XE (2) for the corresponding tool onto the crankshaft journal. Moisten the new sealing ring lip with a little silicone grease (white) and slide it over the protective collar on the crankshaft journal.


2. Remove the protective collar from the crankshaft journal.

3. Press in the sealing ring with KM-6010 (4) into the oil pump, use the tooth belt sprocket bolt (3) and washer (5).

4. Slide the tooth belt sprocket onto the crankshaft.


To fit


1. Put on the tooth belt - check that the pull side (I) is taut.


2. Caution

Note the valve timing marks!

3. Adjust the tooth belt tension - see Tooth belt tension, setting .

4. Fit the camshaft sensor to the cylinder head - fit the bolts with locking compound (red) - tightening torque 8 Nm.

5. Fit the bottom of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover bottom part, removing and fitting .

6. Fit the tensioning device for the multi-belt - see Tensioning device for multi-belt, removing and fitting .

7. Fit the multi-belts - see Multi-belt, removing and fitting .

8. Fit the top of the tooth belt cover - see Tooth belt cover top part, removing and fitting .
