Circuit/System Description |
The body control module (BCM) applies B+ to the hood ajar signal circuit and monitors the voltage to determine the position of the hood. The hood ajar switch contains a multiplexed resistor. This resistor will vary the voltage seen by the BCM by pulling down the applied voltage based on the position of the switch.
Conditions for Running the DTC |
The BCM continuously monitors for this DTC
Conditions for Setting the DTC |
B3006 01
The BCM detects that the hood ajar switch signal circuit is shorted to battery.B3006 02
The BCM detects that the hood ajar switch signal circuit is shorted to ground.B3006 04
The BCM detects that the hood ajar switch signal circuit is open.Action Taken When the DTC Sets |
• |
The hood ajar switch input will be ignored as a content theft deterrent trigger.
|
• |
Remote vehicle start will be disabled.
|
Conditions for Clearing the DTC |
• |
A current DTC will clear when the conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present.
|
• |
A history DTC will clear after 40 malfunction free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification |
1. |
Ignition ON
|
2. |
Observe the scan tool BCM Bonnet Ajar Switch parameter. With the hood open, the Hood Ajar Switch parameter should be Open. With the hood closed, the Hood Ajar Switch parameter should be Closed.
|
3. |
If the BCM parameter does not change, see Test of circuit/system
|
4. |
If the BCM parameter changes
|
5. |
OK

,
Circuit/System Testing |
1. |
Ignition and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the cable harness connector at the bonnet ajar switch B55. It can take up to 2 minutes before all the vehicle systems are disconnected.
|
2. |
Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit connection C and ground.
|
3. |
If the resistance is 10 Ω or higher
|
3.1. |
Ignition OFF
|
3.2. |
Test for less than 2 Ω in the ends of the ground circuit
|
3.3. |
If resistance is 2 Ω or higher, rectify open circuit/high resistance in the circuit
|
3.4. |
If resistance is less than 2 Ω, rectify the open circuit/high resistance in the ground connection
|
4. |
If the resistance is lower than 10 Ω
|
5. |
Ignition ON
|
6. |
Test for B+ between signal circuit connection B and ground.
|
7. |
If less than B+
|
7.1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector X4 at the K9 BCM.
|
7.2. |
Test for infinite resistance between B+ and ground.
|
7.3. |
If resistance is less than infinite, rectify short-circuit to ground in the signal circuit
|
7.4. |
If the resistance is infinite
|
7.5. |
Test for less than 2 Ω in both ends of B+
|
7.6. |
If resistance is 2 Ω or higher, rectify open circuit/high resistance in the circuit
|
7.7. |
If the resistance is less than 2 Ω, replace the BCM unit K9.
|
8. |
If the resistance is higher than 10 Ω
|
8.1. |
If B+
|
8.2. |
Ignition OFF. Disconnect the cable harness connector X4 and X7 from K9 BCM. Ignition ON.
|
8.3. |
Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit connection B and ground.
|
8.4. |
If the value is 1 V or higher
Rectify the short circuit in the signal circuit. |
8.5. |
If the value is less than 1 V
Test or replace bonnet ajar switch B55 |
