C0110 61

Circuit/System Description

The pump motor is an integral part of the brake pressure modulation valve and the pump motor relay is integrated in the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The pump motor relay is not activated during normal system operation. When the ABS, traction control or stability control operation is required, the EBCM activates the pump motor relay and turns the pump motor ON.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

C0110 00

An unintentional pump motor activation is detected in 1.8 seconds.

An open/high resistance is detected on the pump motor B+ circuit in 1.8 seconds.

C0110 04

An unintentional pump motor activation is detected in 1.8 seconds.

C0110 61

A faulty pump motor is detected.

A short to ground or an open/high resistance is detected on the pump motor B+ circuit in 1.8 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The ABS indicator turns ON.

The brake warning indicator turns ON.

The traction control/stability control-active indicator turns ON.

The EBCM disables the ABS, traction control, and stability control for the duration of the ignition cycle.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The condition for generation of a DTC is no longer present.

The DTC in the history is cleared after 40 consecutive fault-free ignition cycles have taken place.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, undo the connector from the EBCM K17. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.

2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 16 and ground.

3. If the reading is 10 Ω or higher:.

3.1. Ignition OFF

3.2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit, end to end.

3.3. If the reading is 2 Ω or higher, rectify open/high resistance in the circuit.

3.4. If the reading is less than 2 Ω or higher, rectify open/high resistance at connection to ground

4. If the reading is less than 10 Ω:.

5. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.

6. If the test lamp does not come on and the circuit fuse is OK:

6.1. Ignition OFF

6.2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the B+ circuit, end to end

6.3. If the reading is 2 Ω or higher, rectify open/high resistance in the circuit.

6.4. If the reading is less than 2 Ω or higher, verify that the fuse is not open and that there is power to the fuse

7. If the test lamp does not come on and the fuse is open:

7.1. Test for infinite resistance between B+ and ground

7.2. If the reading is less than infinite, rectify short circuit to ground on the circuit.

7.3. If the resistance reading is infinite, replace Q5 brake pressure modulation valve

8. If the test lamp illuminates:

9. Disconnect the K17 electronic brake control module from Q5 brake pressure modulation valve.

10. Connect a test lamp between the pins for pump motor on the K17 electronic brake control module.

Note

To prevent incorrect diagnosis, this step requires use of a GM-approved test lamp

11. Connect the cable contact to the K17 electronic brake control module.

12.
Note

The test lamp must be connected to the control module's pump motor pin before turning the ignition ON.

Ignition ON.

13. Verify that the test lamp is switched ON and OFF when the pump motor voltage is increased using the diagnostic tool.

Note

The test lamp shines weakly initially until the voltage increases with every press and the light intensity increases.

14. If the test lamp does not switch ON and OFF:

Replace the K17 electronic brake control module.

15. If the test lamp switches ON and OFF:

16. Replace Q5 brake pressure modulation valve.

Repair Instructions
