1. Child Security Lockout Malfunction |
Circuit/System Description |
The bod control module (BCM) monitors the voltage level in the child security door lockout switch signal circuit, when the switch is in the open position the voltage in the signal circuit will be equal to the B+ voltage level. When the child security door lockout switch is pressed, voltage within the signal circuit drops and the BCM will detect the voltage drop and will energize the Door Lock relay to disable the interior rear door handles.
Conditions for Running the DTC |
The system voltage is 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC |
The BCM has detected a short to ground on the child security lockout switch signal circuit for greater than 60 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets |
The BCM will ignore the input from the lockout switch and the child lockout feature will be inoperative.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC |
• |
The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
|
• |
When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
|
• |
A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification |
Ignition ON, doors locked, command the child lockout function by pressing the child lockout switch, the interior rear door handles should become inoperative and the lockout indicator should illuminate.
Circuit/System Testing |
1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the A20 radio/HVAC control.
|
2. |
Ignition ON, test for greater than 10 V between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground.
|
3. |
If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
|
4. |
If all circuits test normal, test or replace the A20 radio/HVAC control.
|
Component Testing |
Child Lockout Switch Test
1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the A20 radio/HVAC control.
|
2. |
Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 5 and the ground terminal 17 with the switch in the open position.
|
3. |
If less than the specified value, replace the A20 radio/HVAC control.
|
4. |
Test for less than 2 Ω between the signal terminal 5 and the ground terminal 17 while holding the switch in the closed position.
|
5. |
If greater than the specified range, replace the A20 radio/HVAC control.
|
Repair Instructions |
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
