Tilting of the power side mirror in reverse gear does not work

Tilting of the power side mirror in reverse gear does not work

Diagnostic Instructions

Perform Diagnostic system check - Vehicle before this fault diagnosis starts.

See Strategy based diagnosis the correct procedure during fault diagnosis.

Instructions for the diagnosis procedure gives an overview of the fault diagnosis categories.

Circuit/System Description

The switch for exterior mirrors and the passenger's window switch are in a serial data circuit with memory seat module as master. The switches for mirror selection and directional control give input signals to the memory seat module through the serial data circuit. When the memory seat module receives switch input signals from the switch for exterior door mirrors, outgoing mirror commands are sent to the appropriate switch through the serial data circuit. The switch for the exterior door mirrors and passenger window switch controls the left and right exterior door mirrors through bi-directional motor control circuits. The motor control circuits are floating while in an inactive state and the switches will apply power and ground to the control circuits as necessary to move the mirror in the commanded direction.

Mirror position is determined by both horizontal and vertical position sensors in each of the power mirrors. The switch for the exterior mirrors and passenger window switch supply a 5 V reference, low reference, and horizontal and vertical position signal circuits to these sensors. The signal circuits are referenced from 5 V by the switches and the signal circuit voltage levels represent the mirror positions. The mirror positions are sent to the memory seat module through the serial data circuit where they are stored for memory mirror operation. When the memory seat module receives a memory recall command, the memory seat module will send the go to position commands to the switch and the exterior door mirrors and passenger window switch. The switches will then drive the appropriate mirror motors to the commanded position sensor settings.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, verify that parking assistance is activated in DIC.

2. Choose the side mirror on the driver's side, run the mirror in all directions and make sure everything works as it should.

3. If the mirror does not work as designed, see Power Mirror Malfunction (with AAB) , or Power Mirror Malfunction (without AAB) .

4. Choose the side mirror on the passenger side, run the mirror in all directions and make sure everything works as it should.

5. If the mirror does not work as designed, see **Power mirror, malfunction (with AAB)** Power Mirror Malfunction (with AAB) ; Power Mirror Malfunction (without AAB) .

6. Check that the mirror positions are stored in the two memory functions.

7. Use the two memory buttons and verify that the side mirrors are set to the preset positions.

8. If the mirrors are not set in the stored positions, see Power Mirror Folding Malfunction (with AAB) ; Power Mirror Folding Malfunction (without AAB) .

9. Parking brake actuated, car running, engage reverse and check that the side mirrors tilt down.

10. If the side mirror on the driver's side does not tilt down, replace the corresponding switch.

11. If the side mirror on the passenger side does not tilt down, replace the corresponding switch.

12. Parking brake on, car running, engage reverse and check that the side mirrors tilt down.

13. If the side mirrors do not tilt down, replace the seat memory control module.

Repair Instructions

Perform Confirmation of diagnostic repair after the repair has been completed.

See Control module, references for replacement of switches, door lock/window and programming of the memory module for adjustment of the driver or passenger seats.
