Circuit/System Description

The infrared remote signal is used to transmit signals from the rear seat entertainment remote control via pulse width modulated (PWM) signals to the radio. When a key on the remote is pressed, the remote control sends an infrared message to the infrared transmitter located in the DVD display. The infrared transmitter will convert these infrared signals into a frequency and send the message to the radio via the remote infrared signal circuits (+) and (-).

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, Radio ON, DVD playing, verify that the Rear Seat Entertainment System audio/video functions are working properly.

2. If the Rear Seat Entertainment System is inoperative, refer to Video Entertainment System Malfunction .

3. Verify that all remote control functions are working properly.

4. If one function on the remote control is inoperative, replace the remote control.

5. If all functions are inoperative on the remote control, test or replace the batteries.

6. Verify that all remote control functions are working properly pointing at the left and right DVD display while holding the remote control 8-10 inches from each display.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at both left and right DVD display seat headrests.

2. Ignition OFF, scan tool disconnected, open driver door, wait two minutes. Test for less than 1 Ω between the infrared remote signal (-) circuits terminal 13 and ground.

3. If greater than the specified range, test the signal (-) circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the A11 Radio.

4. Ignition ON, DVD playing, test for 1-4 V between the infrared remote signal (+) circuit terminal 12 and ground.

5. If less than specified range, test the signal (+) circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the A11 Radio.

6. If greater than specified range, test the signal (+) circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the A11 Radio.

7. If all circuits test normal, replace the remote control. If the remote is still inoperative, replace the DVD display seat headrest.
