Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) energizes the front and rear park lamps by applying voltage to the park lamp control circuit. When the park lamp control circuit is energized the park lamps are illuminated.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Headlamp switch in park or low beam position.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The BCM detects a short to ground on the control circuit.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, perform the appropriate Front Park Lamp test. The appropriate park lamps should turn ON/OFF.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, remove the appropriate park lamp bulb and inspect.

2. If bulb is faulty, replace bulb.

3. Disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate headlamp assembly or tail lamp assembly.

4. Test for less than 5 Ω between the appropriate lamp assembly ground circuit harness connector listed below and ground.

E13L Headlamp Assembly - Left ground circuit harness connector terminal 1

E13R Headlamp Assembly - Right ground circuit harness connector terminal 1

E5E Tail Lamp - Left ground circuit harness connector terminal F

E5F Tail Lamp - Right ground circuit harness connector terminal F

5. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

6. Connect a test lamp between the appropriate park lamp control circuit harness connector listed below and ground.

E13L Headlamp Assembly - Left control circuit harness connector terminal 4

E13R Headlamp Assembly - Right control circuit harness connector terminal 4

E5E Tail Lamp - Left control circuit harness connector terminal A

E5F Tail Lamp - Right control circuit harness connector terminal A

7. Command the appropriate Park Lamp test with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.

8. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

9. If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

10. If all the circuits and bulbs test normal, replace the appropriate headlamp assembly or tail lamp assembly.
