Circuit/System Description

The brake pedal position sensor is used to sense the action of the driver application of the brake pedal. The brake pedal position sensor provides an analog voltage signal that will increase as the brake pedal is applied. The body control module (BCM) provides a low reference signal and a 5 V reference voltage to the brake pedal position sensor. When the variable signal reaches a voltage threshold indicating the brakes have been applied, the BCM will apply a 12 V signal to the brake applied output circuit to the engine control module (ECM).

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The BCM detects a short to ground on the control circuit.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The condition for setting the DTC is not longer present.

Circuit/System Verification

Verify that DTC C0277 is not set.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the K20 Engine Control Module harness connector listed below:

Harness connector X1 with LDK or LBY

Harness Connector X2 with LUU, LBS, LAU or LBW

2. Connect a test lamp between ground and the terminal listed below:

Terminal 52 with LLU, LDK, LAU or LBW

Terminal 38 with LBS

Terminal 24 with LBY

3. Ignition ON, push and release the brake pedal. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changed between pushed an released brake pedal.

4. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

5. If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

6. If all circuits test normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
