Circuit/System Description

The sport mode switch, tour mode switch, sport mode light emitting diode (LED) and tour mode LED are combined into one switch module. The body control module (BCM) monitors the sport mode switch and the tour mode switch. When either switch is pressed, the BCM will request the suspension control module, transmission control module (TCM) and engine control module (ECM) via serial data to control the vehicle ride characteristic according to the selected mode. The BCM will command the sport mode or tour mode LED ON to notify the driver of the selected mode.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Verify no communication related DTC is set.

2. If any communication DTC is set, diagnose those first.

3. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Suspension System Mode parameter while pressing and releasing one after the other S48C Multifunction Switch 1 - Instrument Panel, Sport Mode and Tour Mode. Verify the reading changes between Normal/Comfort/Sport Mode.

4. If the parameter does not change between the specified values, go to Circuit/System Testing.

5. Observe the sport mode LED and the tour mode LED while pressing and releasing one after the other S48C Multifunction Switch 1 - Instrument Panel, Sport Mode and Tour Mode. The sport mode LED and the tour mode LED should turn ON and OFF.

6. If the LED does not change between the specified values, go to Circuit/System Testing.

Circuit/System Testing

Note

You must perform the Circuit/System Verification before proceeding with Circuit/System Testing.

Static Test

Ignition OFF, disconnect the X5 harness connector at the K9 Body Control Module.

Ignition ON, verify the sport mode LED is OFF.

If the sport mode LED does not turn OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage.

Note

You must perform the Circuit/System Verification before proceeding with Circuit/System Testing.

Dynamic Test

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the S48C Multifunction Switch 1 - Instrument Panel harness connector.

2. Test for less than 5 Ω between S48C Multifunction Switch 1 - Instrument Panel terminal 2 and ground.

3. If not within the specified value, test the wiring harness for an open/high resistance.

4. Ignition ON, test for less than 5 Ω between S48C Multifunction Switch 1 - Instrument Panel terminal 3 and ground.

5. If not within the specified value, test the wiring harness for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

6. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Suspension System Mode parameter while installing a 3 A fused jumper wire between the S48C Multifunction Switch 1 - Instrument Panel terminal 4 and ground. Verify the reading changes between Normal/Sport Mode.

7. If the parameter does not change between the specified values, test the wiring harness for short to voltage, short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

8. Ignition OFF, connect a test lamp to S48C Multifunction Switch 1 - Instrument Panel terminal 8 and ground.

9. Ignition ON, the test lamp has to illuminate while installing a 3 A fused jumper wire between the S48C Multi-Function Switch 1 - Instrument Panel terminal 4 and ground.

10. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the sport mode LED signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

11. If the circuit test normal, replace the S48C Multifunction Switch 1 - Instrument Panel.
