Noise in engine under load (A20NFT/LHU)

Noise in engine under load (A20NFT/LHU)

Cause Procedure
Low oil pressure
1. Check the oil pressure. See Diagnosis and testing of oil pressure (A20NFT/LHU) .

2. Repair or replace if necessary.

Ignition knock Check that the ignition is working correctly.
Undo the torque converter's screws
1. Check the torque converter's screws and the flywheel.

2. Repair if necessary.

Cracked flywheel - automatic transmission
1. Check the flywheel's screws and the flywheel.

2. Repair if necessary.

Clutch rod bearing clearance too large Check the following components and repair if necessary:
Clutch rod bearing

Clutch rods

Crankshaft

Crankshaft bearing clearance too large Check the following components and repair if necessary:
Crankshaft bearings

Crankshaft journals

Cylinder block crankshaft bearing holes

Malfunctions in camshaft position regulators - incorrect oil viscosity or contamination.
1. Check that the oil pressure is correct. If the pressure is low, inspect the bottom of the oil filter with regard to the return feed. See Diagnosis and testing of oil pressure (A20NFT/LHU) .

2. Isolate the noise to a specific camshaft position regulator. Disconnect the electrical connector from the camshaft position regulator's solenoid valves and start the car. If the noise disappears, repeat the procedure to limit it to a single actuator. Information is available in Solenoid valve, camshaft intake or Solenoid valve, camshaft exhaust .
