DTC Descriptor |
DTC B1474 02
Passenger Exterior Door Handle Switch Circuit Short to Ground
Diagnostic Fault Information |

Passenger Door Handle Switch Ground | - | 1 | - | - |
1. Power Door Unlatch Malfunction |
Circuit/System Description |
The signal circuit for the passenger door's exterior handle sends input data to the keyless entry control module when the exterior handle is activated. With these input data, the keyless entry control unit can discover an open door request.
The keyless entry control module delivers a signal voltage to the contact for the passenger door's exterior handle via the signal circuit for the passenger door's exterior handle. When the door handle is activated, the contact makes and the voltage signal from the keyless entry control module switches to ground.
Conditions for Running the DTC |
Battery voltage is between 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC |
The keyless entry control module detects the right front exterior door handle switch signal circuit is shorted to ground or closed for greater than 60 s.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets |
The passenger door does not open when you operate the exterior handle unless the passenger door has first been unlocked.
The passenger door's exterior handle cannot send an open door request if the vehicle is locked.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC |
• |
The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
|
• |
When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
|
• |
A history DTC will clear after 40 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification |
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool keyless entry control module Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch parameter while pulling and releasing the passenger door handle. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive as the handle is pulled and released.
Circuit/System Testing |
1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B27B door handle switch - passenger exterior.
|
2. |
Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
|
3. |
If the value is higher than that prescribed, test the ground circuit for open circuit/high resistance.
|
4. |
Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
|
5. |
If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
|
6. |
Fit a 3 A fuse protected jumper cable between the signal circuit's switch pin 2 and the ground circuit's pin 1. Check with the diagnostic tool that the parameter for the outer passenger door switch is active.
|
7. |
If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to voltage or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
|
8. |
If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B27B door handle switch - passenger exterior.
|
Component Testing |
Passenger Door Handle Switch
1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B27B door handle switch - passenger exterior.
|
2. |
With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 2 and the ground terminal 1.
|
3. |
If not the specified value, replace the B27B door handle switch - passenger exterior.
|
4. |
With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 5 Ω between the signal terminal 2 and the ground terminal 1
|
5. |
If greater than the specified range, replace the B27B door handle switch - passenger exterior.
|
