1. Exterior Door Lock Switch Malfunction |
Circuit/System Description |
The exterior passenger door handle contains a small sensor which allows a person to lock the vehicle doors from the outside without using the remote keyless transmitter. The keyless entry control module monitors the voltage level on the passenger door handle switch signal circuit, when the switch is pressed, the voltage in the signal circuit will drop and the keyless entry control module will then send a serial data message to the BCM to command all the doors to lock.
Conditions for Running the DTC |
Battery voltage is between 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC |
The keyless entry control module detects that the remote control's lock/unlock signal is shorted to ground longer than 45 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets |
The keyless entry control module ignores the inputs from the passenger exterior door sensor.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC |
• |
The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
|
• |
When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
|
• |
A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification |
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Exterior Driver Door Handle Touch Sensor parameter while pressing and releasing the passenger door handle lock switch. The value should change between Active and Inactive as the switch is pressed and released.
Circuit/System Testing |
1. |
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the A24P door handle assembly - passenger.
|
2. |
Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit pin 4 and ground.
|
3. |
If the value is higher than the given range, test the ground circuit for open/high resistance.
|
4. |
Verify that the diagnostic tool parameter passenger door exterior handle touch sensor is Inactive.
|
5. |
If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 3 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
|
6. |
Fit a 3 A fuse-protected jumper cable between the signal circuit pin 3 and ground, verify that the diagnostic tool parameter for passenger door exterior handle touch sensor is Active.
|
7. |
If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
|
8. |
If all circuits test normal, test or replace the A24P door handle assembly - passenger.
