Timing Belt Replacement (LLU/A16LET)

EN-6333 Locking Pin

EN-6625 Flywheel Holder

Removal Procedure


1. Turn the ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LLU/A16LET) .

4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

5. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

6. Raise the vehicle.

7. Remove the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement .

8. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .

9. Lower the vehicle.

10. Remove the timing belt upper front cover. Refer to Timing Belt Upper Front Cover Replacement .

11. Set the engine to top dead center (TDC).

12. Install EN-6340 locking tool (1 + 2) between the camshaft sprocket and make sure that the left mark of the locking tool aligned with the right one.


13. Use an Allen key (1), apply tension to the timing belt tension roller (2) in the direction of the arrow.


14. Lock the timing belt tensioner with the EN-6333 locking pin (3).

15. Raise the vehicle.

16. Remove 2 fasteners of the transmission front mount. Refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement .

17. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (LLU/A16LET) .

18. Remove the timing belt lower front cover. Refer to Timing Belt Lower Front Cover Replacement (LLU/A16LET) .

19. Remove the fastener of the timing belt tensioner and the timing belt tensioner.

20. Lower the vehicle.

21. Remove the timing belt.

22. Install the fastener and the washer of the crankshaft balancer to the crankshaft.


Installation Procedure


1. Install the timing belt.

2. Raise the vehicle.

3. Clean the thread of the fastener from the timing belt tensioner.

4. Keep on to install the timing belt.

5. Refer to Fastener Caution .

Install the timing belt tensioner (2) with a NEW fastener (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft) .


6. Remove EN-6625 flywheel holder (1) from the engine block (2).


7. Lower the vehicle.

8. Remove EN-6333 locking pin from the timing belt tensioner.

9. Remove EN-6340 locking tool from both camshaft sprockets.

10. Turn crankshaft 720 degrees clockwise.

11. Set the engine to top dead center (TDC).

12. Install EN-6340 locking tool to the camshaft sprockets to check the valve timing.

13. Remove EN-6340 locking tool.

14. Raise the vehicle.

15. Check top dead center (TDC) of the crankshaft position.

16. Install EN-6625 flywheel holder (1) to the engine block (2).

17. Remove the fastener and the washer of the crankshaft balancer.

18. Install the timing belt lower front cover. Refer to Timing Belt Lower Front Cover Replacement (LLU/A16LET) .

19. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (LLU/A16LET) .

20. Fasten the 2 fasteners of the transmission front mount. Refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement .

21. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .

22. Install the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement .

23. Lower the vehicle.

24. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

25. Lower the vehicle.

26. Install the timing belt upper front cover. Refer to Timing Belt Upper Front Cover Replacement .

27. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LLU/A16LET) .

28. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
